The Free Guide: Etsy Print On Demand With Claude (Built 2026-09-20)

Every step below comes from a file that was checked. The file is named on the step. Nothing here is from memory. Where a step could not be confirmed from those files, the line says VERIFY LIVE BEFORE FILMING instead of guessing.

What you get (read this first, it is honest)

One design, made free. That same single design turned into twenty product photos for nothing. One real Etsy listing live, with the AI box ticked on screen, and the real cost of that listing said out loud.

The free way (this guide)What it costs you
ChatGPT images makes the designFree, and the cap is about 2 to 3 images per rolling 24 hours today (source: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row a, SEARCH checked 2026-09-20)
Ideogram when the design needs readable words on itFree tier is 10 slow credits. The sources disagree on whether that is per day or per week, so it is said as unconfirmed (source: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row a, and idea 2 row a where Ideogram's own docs refuse to print the number)

The paid doors, each named with its price

The paid doorWhat it costs
Etsy itself, on every listing$0.20 to list, 6.5 percent transaction fee on item price plus shipping, and about 3 percent plus $0.25 to process in the US (source: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row e, SEARCH checked 2026-09-20)

Higgsfield, the speed upgradeBasic $9, Starter $15, Plus $49, Ultra $129 a month. VERIFY LIVE BEFORE FILMING. All four numbers come from a search summary, not from Higgsfield's page, because higgsfield.ai/pricing served no page body on 2026-09-20. Open the page and read the four prices off the screen (source: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row b, and card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, Open for Reis item 3)
Higgsfield credit packs80 credits for $5 up to 1,700 credits for $80, roughly $0.047 to $0.0625 a credit, and a live subscription is required to buy a pack (same source, same VERIFY LIVE warning)

Printify Premium$39 a month paid monthly, or $24.99 a month paid annually, which went up from $29 on 2026-02-17 (source: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row c, SEARCH 2026-09-20, their own page returned 403)
Printful Growth$24.99 a month, waived once you pass $12,000 in annual sales (same source)
Everbee, the keyword tool to skipFree plan exists forever with no card, but monthly sales, revenue and conversion rate are locked behind $29.99 a month monthly, or $19.99 annual (source: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row d)

The honest line about the paid print tiers. Printify Premium and Printful Growth are a discount on the product cost, not a feature unlock. The free tier does the whole job in this guide. Nobody should pay on day one. (Source: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row c.)

Step 1: the free design, and the free cap said out loud

Source for this whole step: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row a, checked 2026-09-20, and card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, step 1.

Three doors, in the order you actually use them:

The doorWhat it is forThe free limit
ChatGPT imagesThe design itselfAbout 2 to 3 images per rolling 24 hours today. Say that to yourself before you start, because a beginner hits it in three minutes and quits
IdeogramThe design when it needs readable words on it, which is the thing image models are worst at10 slow credits on the free tier. Per day or per week is unconfirmed, and Ideogram's own docs refuse to print the number
ClaudeWriting the listing from the finished photoFree for one listing at a time

Pick the niche in one sentence and move. Do not spend twenty minutes on it. (Source: card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, step 1, which cuts the niche talk to one sentence on purpose.)

The design prompt, written out in full

Paste this into ChatGPT, or into Ideogram if your design has words on it. Swap the things in square brackets.

Make me one print ready design to put on a plain t shirt.

WHAT IT IS
The design is: [WHAT THE DESIGN SHOWS, IN ONE SENTENCE]
The person who would wear it is: [WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY ARE INTO]
The words on it, if any, are exactly: [THE WORDS, SPELLED EXACTLY, OR "no words"]

RULES FOR THE IMAGE
- The design only. No shirt, no model, no mockup, no background scene.
- A plain flat background, nothing behind the design.
- The design sits in the middle with clear empty space all around it.
- Square, and as large and sharp as you can make it.
- Bold shapes and solid colours that still read from across a room.
- If there are words, spell them exactly as I wrote them and make them easy to
read. Do not add words I did not ask for.
- Keep it to a few colours. It gets printed, not screened.

NEVER DO THESE
- Never use a real brand, a logo, a team, a character, a song lyric or a film
quote. Not a version of one, not "inspired by" one.
- Never use a real person's face, name or likeness.
- Never copy another artist's style by name.
- Do not put a watermark, a signature or a website on it.

Give me the image, then tell me in one line what is on it so I can write the
listing from that.

The listing prompt, written out in full

Take the finished product photo, upload it, and paste this. This is the same move the source video saves until its last minute and never shows on screen. (Source: skyscraper-etsy-x-sources-2026-09-20.md, Wholesale Ted at 23:10 and 23:13, her own words.)

Here is a photo of the product I am about to list on Etsy.

Write me the listing. The product is: [WHAT IT IS]
It is for: [WHO IT IS FOR]
My price is: $[YOUR PRICE]

Give me, in this order:

1. A title. Put the words a buyer would actually type first, then the product,
then who it is for. No brand names. No ALL CAPS.
2. A description. First line says what it is and who it is for. Then what it is
printed on and how it is made. Then sizing and care in plain words. Then one
line that this is a print on demand item made to order.
3. Thirteen tags, one per line, each one short. Use the words a buyer types, not
the words a designer uses. No repeats, no brand names.

RULES
- Never invent a review, a rating, a sales number or a "best seller" line.
- Never say handmade. This design was made with AI help and it gets declared.
- Never promise a delivery date. I will read the real one off my print
  partner's page.
- Never use a brand, a band, a team, a film or a character in any of it.
- Plain words. No marketing language, no exclamation marks.

VERIFY LIVE BEFORE FILMING: Etsy's current character limits for the title and
the tags, and the current tag count, are read off the Etsy listing editor on the
day. Do not state them from memory.

Is it safe to hand the AI your design files and your shop?

Yes, when you set the fences first. The AI reads a plain text rules file sitting in the folder you work in, and it follows it every single time.

If you useName the file
ClaudeCLAUDE.md
CodexAGENTS.md

Write the fences in plain words:

  • Never touch, move or delete anything outside this folder.
  • Never delete a file. Move it to a folder called Old instead.
  • Never open my keys, my passwords, or any settings file that holds them.
  • Never log into my Etsy shop, my print partner or my payment account.
  • Never publish, list or send anything anywhere without showing me first.
  • Always work on a copy, never the original.

That file is the one to have open on screen. It is the file that says what the AI may never touch. (Source: card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, the safety line inside step 1, added from the comment asking whether this is safe.)

Step 2: one design, twenty photos, no credits

Source for this whole step: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 rows c and g, checked 2026-09-20, and card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, step 2.

Here is the fact worth sending to a friend: one design file uploaded once gives you twenty product photos for nothing, because the colour is the garment, not the design.

The source video regenerates the design twenty times and burns twenty credits doing it. You upload the same single file to the print partner's own mockup generator and it renders every garment colour and every product from that one file, free, no prompting, no credits. (Source: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row g.)

The steps:

  1. Make a free account with Printify or Printful. No card.
  2. Pick the blank product: a t shirt, a hoodie, a mug, whatever fits the design.
  3. Upload your one design file.
  4. Place it on the blank and set the size.
  5. Turn on every colour you want. Each one becomes its own photo.
  6. Download the set. That is your twenty photos.
  7. Read the print cost for that exact product off the print partner's own page and write it down. You need it for the money maths at step 4.

VERIFY LIVE BEFORE FILMING: the exact button names and screen order inside today's Printify and Printful mockup generators are not written in any checked file, and both companies' pricing pages blocked the research on 2026-09-20. Click it on camera and read the screen. (Source: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, "What is missing", rows for Printify and Printful.)

The free tierWhat you actually get
Printify free$0, up to 5 stores, unlimited designs, unlimited watermark free mockups. AI custom scenes are Premium only
Printful free$0, 455 plus products, unlimited stores, free Design Maker and Mockup Generator, Etsy integration included
GelatoVERIFY LIVE BEFORE FILMING. Its pricing page returned 403 on 2026-09-20, so nothing about Gelato is claimed here

Step 3: the live listing, and the AI box that never gets hidden

Source for this whole step: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row e, checked 2026-09-20, and card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, step 3.

This is the part no video in this lane shows, and it is the difference between selling and being invisible.

There is now a dedicated AI disclosure field in the Etsy listing editor. It is not optional. Etsy filters a listing out of search until it is filled.

Three things happen in that one box:

  1. You declare that AI meaningfully shaped the output.
  2. The attribution switches from "Made by" to "Designed by".
  3. You may never call the listing handmade.

(All three: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row e, SEARCH checked 2026-09-20.)

VERIFY LIVE BEFORE FILMING: Etsy's own seller handbook article on this, at etsy.com/seller-handbook/article/1275449912004, returned 403 to the research on 2026-09-20. Open it logged in and confirm the exact wording on screen before you say it out loud. (Source: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row e, and "What is missing".)

The answer to "can I just hide it?"

No. Ticking the box costs you nothing. Hiding it risks the shop, and an unticked listing is filtered out of search anyway, so hiding it costs you the thing you were trying to protect. (Source: card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, step 3, Reis's own answer said out loud.)

The listing checklist

  1. New listing, photos first: your mockup set from step 2.
  2. Title from the listing prompt.
  3. Description from the listing prompt.
  4. Tags from the listing prompt.
  5. The AI disclosure field: filled in, on screen, never skipped.
  6. Attribution set to Designed by, not Made by.
  7. The word handmade used nowhere.
  8. Price set. Print cost checked against it before you publish.
  9. Publish. That is the $0.20.

Step 4: the keywords, and the real cost

Source for this whole step: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 rows d and e, checked 2026-09-20, and card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, step 4.

The free keyword door

ToolThe free tierThe verdict
eRank5 keyword lookups a day, 5 listing audits a day, 1 AI Listing Helper use a day. Paid: Basic $5.99, Pro $9.99, Expert $29.99 a month (erank.com/pricing, OWN PAGE opened 2026-09-20)Use this. You get real lookups for nothing
EverbeeFree forever, no card, but monthly sales, revenue and conversion rate are locked behind $29.99 a month monthly, or $19.99 annual (SEARCH 2026-09-20)Skip it. Its free tier hides exactly the number a beginner needs, which is whether the thing actually sells

The keyword prompt, written out in full

I am about to list this on Etsy: [WHAT IT IS, IN ONE SENTENCE]
It is for: [WHO IT IS FOR]

Here are the real numbers I just pulled from my keyword tool:
[PASTE THE ROWS YOU COPIED OUT OF eRANK]

Do this with them:

1. Pick the one phrase I should build the title around, and say in one line why
that one and not the others.
2. Give me four more phrases worth putting in the tags, ranked.
3. Tell me which of the phrases I pasted I should drop, and why.
4. Rewrite my title so the winning phrase is at the front and it still reads
   like a human wrote it.

RULES
- Only use the numbers I pasted. Never estimate a search volume, a competition
score or a sales figure. If something is not in what I pasted, say you do not
  have it.
- Never invent a trend or a season that is not in the data.
- No brand names, no band names, no film or character names.
- Plain words.

The fee maths, live on screen

The source video runs 23 minutes and never names a single Etsy cost. (Source: skyscraper-etsy-x-sources-2026-09-20.md, "Etsy's own costs": the listing fee and transaction cut are never mentioned once.)

Here it is, on a $25 item:

The cutWhat it isOn $25
Listing fee$0.20 per listing$0.20
Transaction fee6.5 percent on item price plus shipping$1.63
Payment processingAbout 3 percent plus $0.25 in the US$1.00
Total, Offsite Ads offAbout 11.3 percent all inabout $2.83
What comes back to youBefore the print costabout $22.17
Offsite Ads, when it fires15 percent, or 12 percent once you pass $10,000 trailing 12 months, and above that line it is not optional$3.75 more on a $25 order

(All rows: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row e, and card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, money math.)

Then subtract the print cost, which you read off your print partner's own page for that exact product, on camera, never from memory.

Step 5: free traffic, and the viewer outside the US

Source for this whole step: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row f, checked 2026-09-20, and card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, step 5.

Door one: Etsy's own search, which is not closed to you

A brand new shop is not invisible. Etsy's algorithm tests every new listing, new store or established store, so everyone gets the same first look.

In her own words: Etsy "will generally test all products, including products in both new stores and established stores ... meaning everyone has a chance ... even if you don't have any social media followers or reviews". (Source: skyscraper-etsy-x-sources-2026-09-20.md, Wholesale Ted at 22:12.)

Two of her traffic numbers are worth knowing and worth flagging: she says Etsy is "the 67th most popular website in the world" and gets "400 to 500 million visits" a month. Both were stated on her video with nothing shown on screen behind them, so they are her claim, not a checked figure. (Source: skyscraper-etsy-x-sources-2026-09-20.md, lines at 19:28 and 19:31.)

Door two: Pinterest pins, pointed at the one listing

The rule is exact: link the single listing, never the shop front. (Source: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row f, Money With Mak at 11:29, youtu.be/TfOhKeciZpU, 160,122 views, uploaded 2026-04-24.)

You already have the photos. Each mockup colour is a pin. Each pin goes to that one listing's own address.

Door three: the paid one, named so nobody is surprised

Etsy Ads, on your own daily budget, and Offsite Ads at 15 percent, or 12 percent past $10,000 trailing 12 months, which is automatic above that line. (Source: updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row f.)

If you are not in the US

Two questions sit unanswered under the source video: a UK seller "stuck on the shipping bit" who says "I find most YouTubers are from the USA", and a flat "Will it work in Pakistan?". (Source: skyscraper-etsy-x-sources-2026-09-20.md, comment rows 126 and 127, both with no reply.)

VERIFY LIVE BEFORE FILMING: the actual answer is on your print partner's own shipping page, and that page was not pulled in this run. Open Printify's and Printful's shipping pages on camera and read the countries, the times and the costs off the screen. Nothing about non US shipping is claimed in this guide from memory. (Source: card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, step 5, which sends this answer to the print partner's own pages.)

The money maths (real numbers only)

Source: card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, money math, and updated-tools-ideas-2-and-5-2026-09-20.md, idea 5 row e.

A $25 item loses about 11.3 percent all in, which is about $2.83, so about $22.17 comes back before the print cost.

Sales in a month at $25Back before print cost
10about $221.70
30about $665.10

Those are the fees worked through, not a forecast. Subtract your print cost, which you read off your print partner's page.

The ceiling shown, with whose money it is and the year:

PersonWhat they said they earnYearWhere they said it
Wholesale Ted (Sarah), her own Etsy print on demand store"over $1,000 a day"2026youtube.com/watch?v=P-ULbNbV5IQ at 0:21

That is her claim, on her own video, with no dashboard shown behind it. It is not a promise about your shop. (Source: card-video5-etsy-2026-09-20.md, proof table and check 17.)

The safety box

Read this once. It is the short version of every rule this method runs under.

  • Never call an AI assisted listing handmade. Tick the AI disclosure field, switch the attribution to Designed by, every time.
  • Never use a brand, a band, a team, a film, a character, a song lyric or a real person's face in a design or a listing. Not a version of it, not "inspired by" it.
  • Never invent a review, a rating, a sales number or a best seller badge.
  • Never promise a delivery date from memory. Read it off your print partner's own page.
  • Never say a price from memory. Every price, fee, cap and limit in this guide names the page it came from and the date it was checked. If it has no checked source it says VERIFY LIVE BEFORE FILMING, and so should you.
  • Never let the AI log into your Etsy shop, your print partner or your payment account. It prepares the text. You paste, you list, you publish.
  • Never put a key, a token or a password into any file, and never into a design, a listing or a page.
  • Never promise an income. Somebody else's result is named as theirs, with their year.
  • This is an educational template, run at your own risk. It is not legal, tax or financial advice, and the finished listing is yours to check before it goes live.
